BART has received funding from the Caltrans Transportation Planning Grant to prepare access plan for the Daly City BART station area.

BART and Parkmerced are also contributing funds toward this effort.BART is partnering in this collaborative process with Caltrans, Daly City, Parkmerced, SFCTA, SFMTA, SF State and SamTrans.

The plan area encompasses a half-mile radius around the station and straddles the southern edge of San Francisco and the northern edge of Daly City. The plan builds on the 2006 BART Comprehensive Station Plan (CSP) and focuses on the following key objectives:

  • Develop design alternatives to improve the bus intermodal facility to maximize operational efficiencies for buses and shuttles when they arrive, exit and lay over and to accommodate existing and future transit service.  It will address circulation issues for all modes within the station proper and examine how the different modes can navigate with minimal operational and safety conflicts.
  • Address bicycle and pedestrian safety and access by evaluating a potential Niantic At-Grade Crosswalk.  Many people have been observed making unsafe crossings at busy John Daly Boulevard.  An at-grade crosswalk at the existing signalized intersection, if implemented without significant traffic impacts along the local roadways, could greatly enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety.  The plan will address how the existing pedestrian underpass can made safer.
  • Examine how wayfinding, real time and other amenities can enhance patron circulation, whether patrons are making transfers, getting to the garage, passenger pick up and drop off.
