Major Earthquake Safety Program Construction Work in Progress

As part of BART's ongoing systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, construction work has begun in and around stations and other patron areas. Over the next several years, you will encounter work at various locations throughout the BART system. We appreciate your patience and will attempt to minimize construction-related noise, dust and inconvenience. We anticipate the completion of all earthquake upgrades by 2022.

Regional Measure AA: BART Earthquake Safety Bond

On November 2, 2004 voters in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties approved Regional Measure AA, the BART Earthquake Safety Bond. Regional Measure AA will fund up to $980 million of the $1.2 billion project budget to strengthen the original BART system, protect public safety, return BART service quickly and avoid gridlock after a major earthquake. The bonds will be paid for with proceeds from property taxes estimated to average $7.04 annually per $100,000 of assessed value.
