Lake Merritt Administration Building Dismantling Construction Updates

 

Tower Crane Installation And Madison Street Closure Scheduled for June 7, 2009

This Sunday, June 7, contractors will install a tower crane on Madison Street. The multi-story structure will assist in the dismantling process.

Please note: All lanes of traffic on Madison Street, between 8th and 9th, will be closed on June 7 from 7AM to 5PM. Watch for traffic detour signs from 9th Street to Fallon then 8th Street. There will be no parking on Madison Street during this time. Please watch for signs.

Additionally, please note that when the tower crane is not in use, the upper portion may move as the wind shifts. This is normal and is not cause for alarm.

BART Lake Merritt Administrative Building Dismantling to Begin April 2009 -- UPDATE

Effective Wednesday, April 1, 2009 BART will begin construction-related activities at the Lake Merritt Station. These activities will prepare for the upcoming dismantling of the Lake Merritt Administration (LMA) Building and earthquake retrofit work at the Lake Merritt Station.

Construction Work Details:

Location           LMA Plaza - 800 Madison Street
Start Date         April 2009
Duration           Approximately 1 year
Hours               Most work will be done between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays

Construction Impacts Include:

Lane Closures at 8th, 9th, and Madison Streets -- Our crews will place fencing around the LMA building on 8th, 9th, and Madison Streets. The sidewalks and parking lanes around the Lake Merritt Station will be closed on 8th and 9th streets in April; the sidewalks, parking lane, and one lane of traffic will be closed on Madison Street. These closures will remain in effect for the duration of construction. Please watch for signage indicating pedestrian walkways.

Lake Merritt Plaza Closure -- The plaza above the Lake Merritt BART Station will remain closed through construction.

AC Transit Lines 11 & 62 Bus Stop Relocation -- The bus stop for AC Transit lines 11 and 62 may need to be relocated during the dismantling work. Please watch for future updates regarding possible relocation of the stop to the northeast corner of 8th Street.

Be aware that our construction personnel and equipment will be moving around the area. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices. Station access via Oak Street will not be impacted.

BART LMA Dismantling Project Begins HVAC/Elevator Reconfiguration

 

This summer BART will begin the second major activity for the Lake Merritt Administration Building (LMA) Dismantling Project: HVAC/Elevator Reconfiguration. This activity will relocate the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems from the roof of LMA to the plaza, and reconfigure the existing freight elevator to carry employees to the lower levels of the building.

Duration            Approximately six (6) months
Hours                Most work will be done between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on weekdays

The Lake Merritt Administration building is located at 800 Madison Street in Oakland, CA. The LMA building is being dismantled for seismic safety reasons.

Effective Monday, June 30, 2008, the BART LMA Dismantling Project will begin restricting access to areas of the plaza above the Lake Merritt BART Station needed for construction work. Access from the street level to the Lake Merritt Station below continues as it is without disruption.

Be aware that equipment and construction personnel will be moving into and through the area. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices.
