BART is the fast, inexpensive way to get to San Francisco (SF) and around the Bay Area from OAK. The convenient AirBART shuttle bus goes from OAK to the Coliseum Oakland Airport BART Station every 10 minutes. It takes 1/2 hour or less to get to any of BART’s four downtown SF stations. AirBART operates on the following schedule:
Monday through Saturday
5:00 am to 6:00 am every 20 minutes
6:00 am to 12:00 midnight every 10 minutes
Sunday
8:00 am to 12:00 midnight every 10 minutes
The AirBART shuttle trip takes approximately 15 minutes. It stops in front of the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART Station on San Leandro Blvd. and in front of Terminal 1 and 2 (Southwest Airlines) at Oakland International Airport.

Fares for AirBART are $3.00 for an Adult and $1.00 for Children (12 and under), Seniors (65 and over) and Disabled (with ID). AirBART fare is payable in cash (EXACT FARE ONLY), or a $3.00 BART ticket (from a regular ticket machine in the BART station). Drivers only accept exact change cash for Child, Senior and Disabled fares. If using a BART ticket to pay for an adult fare, a ticket with exactly $3.00 of value must be used as bus fare boxes will not return BART tickets valued over $3.00.
U.S. residents can also purchase the "BART Travel Pack" for AirBART online: it includes; two, $3 BART tickets for the AirBART bus and one $7.10 BART ticket to ride BART to downtown San Francisco and back from the Coliseum/Oakland Airport BART station. For additional travel, you can easily add value to your ticket at numerous in-station machines, so you can use the $7.10 ticket throughout the system by adding fare value if necessary.
Traveling Around the Bay Area
Taking BART at OAK to San Francisco is easy. Just take a San Francisco/Daly City bound train to San Francisco. BART stops at four downtown SF stations that are an easy walk or short cab ride to most San Francisco hotels. The BART downtown San Francisco stations are:
- Embarcadero (1 st SF stop) - exit for the Lower Financial District the Hyatt Regency and taxis to Fisherman's Wharf hotels.
- MontgomeryStreet (2 nd SF stop) - exit for the Financial District, Moscone N/S, Sheraton Palace Hotel, W Hotel or South of Market hotels.
- Powell/4 th Street(3rd SF stop) - exit for the Marriott, Hilton, Union Sq. hotels and Moscone W.
- Civic Center(4th SF stop) - exit for Upper Market, Van Ness, the Castro and Civic Center districts
These BART stations are also stations for San Francisco's Municipal Public Transit system (MUNI) railway system. You can take MUNI to get to San Francisco neighborhoods where you’ll find great dining, nightclubs and other attractions. Downtown Oakland is just a 12 minutes ride from OAK and the City Center/12th Street Station is only a few blocks from Oakland Chinatown and Jack London Square. BART can also take you beyond Oakland and San Francisco to many Bay Area cities in the East Bay or on the San Francisco Peninsula, such as Millbrae, San Bruno or to SFO. San Francisco Bound Passengers
The BART downtown SF stations are underground and run in an East/West direction. When you exit the train and take the escalator up you’ll be one level below Market Street.
Civic Center Directions
All the Civic Ctr. Station exits lead to lower Market street hotels. Take the Market/7 th St exit for the Renoir Hotel. Board the rear train cars at OAK to be close to this exit upon arrival.
Powell Station Directions
The Powell St. station exit for Union Square hotels is Hallidae Plaza. Board the rear train cars at SFO to be close to this exit upon arrival. Take the 4 th St. exit for the Marriott and Moscone West. Board the front train cars at OAK to be close to this exit upon arrival.
Montgomery Station Directions
The Montgomery exit for Moscone, W, Westin, Sheraton Palace and south of Market (SOMA) hotels is Market/3 rd St. Take the escalator on the left side of the station to the street level. Board the front train cars at OAK to be close to this exit upon arrival.
Embarcadero Station Directions
The Embarcadero exit for the Hyatt Embarcadero is Drumm St. Take the escalator on the left at the east end of the station up to Drumm St. You’ll be right at the Hyatt’s front door. Board the rear train cars at OAK to be close to this exit upon arrival.
Taking BART back to OAK
From downtown SF, take a Fremont or Dublin/Pleasanton train from the East Bay side of the platform to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station, the 4 th stop after traveling through the tunnel under the bay. Then take the AirBART shuttle to OAK.
From outer East Bay cities, take a San Francisco bound train to Oakland City Center. Go downstairs to the next platform and take the Fremont train to the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station. Then take the AirBART shuttle to OAK.

BART Tips for Oakland Airport Travelers
BART TICKETS
BART ticket machines accept nickels, dimes, quarters, $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills (Please note the ticket machine will not dispense more than $4.95 in change for any one transaction). You can also use a credit card in select machines at all stations. BART ticket machines will only allow purchases up to $50 per day on the same credit card. BART fares are based on the distance you travel. The ticket is read when you enter and leave the stations and the correct fare deducted. If there is $.05 or more remaining on the ticket it will be returned to you. You can enter a station with a ticket valued at less then the fare, but must add fare to the ticket before exiting your destination station. Add Fare machines are located close to the exit fare gates at all stations. If the exact fare is on the ticket when exiting the ticket will not be returned.

BART has one of the highest on-time performance records in the nation, but to be prudent you should give yourself a little extra time in case you miss a transfer or an unanticipated delay occurs. YOUR LUGGAGE
Please keep the aisles clear by storing your luggage under your seat or holding it on your lap. Some cars have space cleared by the doors to accommodate wheelchairs, bikes or strollers. If the space is not being used by a person with a disability, you may store your luggage there, but please keep it within your control at all times.
ACCESSIBILITY
All BART stations are accessible to the disabled. Elevators and fare gates designated for the disabled may also be used by airline passengers with luggage.
