Notice of Scoping Meetings on a proposed BART extension into East Contra Costa County:

The Project: The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) are preparing an Environmental Impact Statement/ Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the extension of BART into East Contra Costa County, and are soliciting comments on the scope of alternatives and environmental impacts to be studied. The proposed project would add 23 miles to the BART system and would begin in the median of State Route 4 and continue from the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART Station to Byron.

The EIS/EIR is intended to satisfy the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Issues that will be investigated in the EIS/EIR include, but are not limited to, transportation, traffic, air and noise impacts; land use compatibility; business and employment concerns; impacts to visual and cultural resources, wildlife, vegetation and habitats, public parklands, historic resources; public health and safety concerns; community service and utility demand, and environmental justice concerns.
