Take BART to Crafts & Music Fair

Holiday shoppers going to the 35th Annual KPFA Crafts & Music Fair Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 can take advantage of a free and easy shuttle connection from Civic Center BART, 8th and Market MUNI bus stop and the Caltrain station at 4th and King Streets.

Paper-cut artist Rick Jones uses BART like others might use SFO - to find inspiration from another culture. Rick boards BART near his home in Pleasant Hill and is transported to San Francisco's Mission District where he finds inspiration for his Day-of-the-Dead theme art. BART's 16th and Mission Station is serendipitously decorated in the same art form Rick practices. At the Mission Station, metal replaces paper to form large scale images borrowed from the native Mexican paper-cut art tradition.

To create his images, Rick begins with an original drawing then carefully cuts out negative spaces with an X-acto knife, leaving an intricate, interconnected image.

Rick also incorporate animals, Mexican 'dichos' or phrases, and social satire in his paper-cut art.

Meet Rick Jones and other talented artists at the KPFA Crafts & Music Fair at the Concourse Exhibition Center, Eighth and Brannan Streets, Saturday and Sunday, December 10 and 11. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Complimentary shuttles provided by SF Mini Bus at the Civic Center BART station, 8th and Market MUNI bus stop, and the Caltrain Station at 4th and King streets. For more information: Call 510-848-676, Ext. 611 or visit www.KPFA.org/craftsfair. To plan your BART trip, use the online QuickPlanner.
