Celebrate Chinese New Year with BART

Take BART to the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco, Saturday, March 3. Exit BART at Montgomery or Powell Street Stations to celebrate Lunar Year 4705, the Year of the Boar!

BART will run longer trains to carry riders to and from the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade. BART will operate eight, nine and 10-car trains beginning in mid-afternoon. Extra trains will be standing by after the event to carry parade-goers home.

Named one of the world's top ten parades, the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade is one of the few remaining night illuminated parades in the country. Started in the 1860's to educate the community about Chinese culture, the Parade and Festival have grown to be the largest celebration of Asian culture outside of Asia.

Nowhere in the world will you see a lunar new year parade with more gorgeous floats, elaborate costumes, ferocious lions, exploding firecrackers , and of course the newly crowned Miss Chinatown U.S.A. and her court.

Another crowd favorite is the spectacular 201-foot long Golden Dragon. It takes a team of over 100 men and women to carry this dragon through the streets of San Francisco.
