UPDATED: Delays and significant changes to weekend service on Pittsburg/Bay Point line

This Friday, October 15, through Sunday, October 17, is the last weekend of scheduled major service changes and delays on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line where we're nearing the completion of the Central Contra Costa County Crossover Project. This is a project that will ultimately allow us to offer more seats and more trains during the commute and improved on-time performance.

MAJOR SERVICE CHANGES AND DELAYS
During this weekend, trains will operate every 40 minutes between Lafayette and Pittsburg / Bay Point stations in both directions instead of the usual 20-minute weekend service. Because of the construction work taking place between these stations, your train may experience an additional 5-10 minute delay between Lafayette and Pittsburg/Bay Point.

The changes to service and the 10-minute delays will begin at 9 pm Friday, October 15. We expect them to last through the late afternoon on Sunday, October 17.

HOW TO AVOID DELAYS
To avoid delays, we strongly advise you to start or end your BART trip at the Lafayette Station because we will maintain the typical 20-minute weekend service between Lafayette and Millbrae. However, if you are headed toward Pittsburg/Bay Point and your only option is to use BART to get past Lafayette Station, please be aware that some trains will only go as far as Lafayette Station. Therefore, you may have to get off the train at Lafayette Station and wait up to 20 minutes for a train that continues on to Pittsburg/Bay Point. Check www.bart.gov for service advisory updates.

This planned service change and the delays are due to weekend trackwork as part of the Central Contra Costa County Crossover Project, located between Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill stations. We hope to complete this project, paid in large part with federal stimulus funds, by the end of the year.

DATE: October 15 – 17, 2010
9 pm Friday October 15 through Sunday afternoon, October 17

DETAILS: 40-minute service between Lafayette and Pittsburg / Bay Point in both directions.
Delays of up to 10 minutes between Lafayette and Millbrae

All stations will remain in service and normal BART service will resume at 4 am on Monday morning, October 18.
