BART invites public to celebrate life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 15

On Tuesday, January 15 from noon to 1:30 pm, BART invites the public to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year’s event will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington through song, spoken word and a multimedia presentation depicting significant scenes that led to the historic march. The event is free and will take place in the auditorium on the second floor of BART’s administration headquarters at 300 Lakeside Drive in Oakland.

The program will include former BART Board member Lynette Sweet as Emcee; opening remarks from General Manager Grace Crunican; keynote speaker Dr. Terence Candell; and songs performed by local artists Ava Coaxum, Sharina Pearson and Phyllis Thompson. Students from Dr. Herbert Guice Christian Academy will round out the program with a spoken word piece.
