Construction begins with single-tracking at Balboa Park 7/16

We are beginning an improvement project at Balboa Park Station that will require one day of single-tracking at the station on Sunday, July 16 while steel beams are installed over the trackway to support the installation of a new deck above the track. This will cause 15-20 minute delays south of the station. The other work to be done later includes demolition of the old glass enclosure at the Ocean Avenue entrance and construction of a new one.

Passengers on trains from Dublin/Pleasanton (Blue line) will need to transfer at 24th St. as those trains will turn back at that station.

We will take advantage of the single-tracking to remove a dead tree that is adjacent to our tracks in this area.

There will be a number of activities in preparation for that work and for other work that will occur on future weekends.

  1. Approximately 20 of the 30 bike racks inside the station will be removed from use on July 9 to allow for storage of the steel beams through July 16. They will be returned to use on July 17. Any bikes remaining locked to the racks on the 7/9 will be removed and stored.
  2. During the single-tracking weekend, temporary enclosures/scaffolding will be constructed over portions of the station including the escalator on the west side near the Ocean Ave. entrance.
  3. The Ocean Ave. entrance will be closed during the 24-hour single-tracking on July 16. Use the Westside Walkway to the footpath along I-280 to the Geneva entrance and elevator.
  4. The footpath is not accessible. For those needing assistance to get from Ocean Avenue to Geneva entrance and elevator, a paratransit vehicle will be provided. Signs will show the pickup location.

The entire project will take approximately one year to complete.

We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
