El Cerrito del Norte station modernization updated 8/9

On August 1, 2017, preparations began for our long-term Station Modernization project at El Cerrito del Norte Station. Over the next two years, this project will upgrade and expand the station to relieve crowding, improve accessibility, reduce fare evasion, and enhance the customer experience.

Improvements include expansion of the paid area of the station, including a new station agent booth and new fare gates, two new elevators and stairwells within the paid area providing access to the platform, new restrooms, new public art installations, and improvements to the Ohlone Greenway. You can learn more about the project including funding information at bart.gov in our Projects section.

The contractor has removed 42 parking spaces at the corner of the parking lot near Hill Street and San Pablo Avenue to provide storage and trailer space for the construction crew. This area was fenced off August 2nd.

We relocated a number of the bus stops as noted on the map to accommodate the construction. On the new map, the CDPH Shuttle and Golden Gate Transit have switched places. Also, over the next month or so, we will be replacing some of the windows in the station and this work may require bus stop relocation as well. There will be signs and barricades showing the changes.

Inside the station we have closed a portion of the Concourse to the south of the Station Agent booth. Barricades have been built around the closed area. An accessible path through the station will always be provided. Non-accessible pedestrian paths have been marked as well to help guide you away from the bus lanes.

We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We look forward to proving much needed improvements to the station through this project.
