BART Police Cupcakes for Kids helps sweeten holidays for low-income families

Cupcakes for Kids fundraiserThe BART Police Cupcakes for Kids fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 28, raised more than $3,000 in donations, all of which will be used to fund the annual Shop With a Cop event on Dec. 12.

Shop With a Cop pairs police personnel with needy families from the community to give around 60 kids a chance to pick out gifts for their holiday celebrations.

"We know there are families in our community who struggle during the holiday season, and we do this to help them have a happier holiday and also to have a positive connection with a police officer," said BPD Lt. Ja'Son Scott, who leads the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) unit. Scott is pictured at right, in uniform behind the cupcake table, at Wednesday's event.

More than 50 dozen cupcakes were donated to this delicious fundraiser. Very special thanks to the following bakeries for their yummy generosity and support: Amaia Bakery-Fremont, Behind The Sweets-San Leandro, Cake Pops by Jennifer Perez-Oakley, Cakes by Karl-Vallejo, Cookie Proper-Oakland, Cupcakes by Jennifer Sheridan-Oakley, Cupcakes by Tania-Danville, Gregory's-Oakland, Hummingbird Bakery-Vallejo, Jenn's Cupcakes and Parties-Castro Valley, Natty Cakes-Berkeley,
