Parking Changes Coming to Millbrae Station Fall 2019 (Parking Spaces to be Closed)

As part of the BART Board-directed initiative to encourage Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at stations with surface parking lots, the new Gateway at Millbrae Station mixed-use development will begin construction in fall 2019 and will be completed in 2022.

The BART station and parking garage will remain open throughout construction.

This project includes 100 affordable units with 80 set aside as veteran-preferred and will boost available housing in San Mateo County by 400 units in total. There will also be hotel, retail, office, and restaurant space. It will include upgraded pedestrian and bicycle paths, and public spaces to revitalize the neighborhood.

We will provide information on alternative options for accessing the station on the project website listed below. The changes to parking will occur as follows (see below for map):

Phase l - Fall 2019

  • BART garage improvements:
    • Garage restriped (to make up for spaces used for the new Pick-up/Drop off)
    • Construction for new passenger Drop-off, Rideshare, and Taxi areas in First Floor of BART parking garage

Phase 2 – Late 2019 (To be closed once the restriping is finished in the garage)

  • The Northeast portion of the surface parking lot will be closed for construction (approx. 300 spaces).

Phase 3 – Late 2019

  • The Southwest surface parking lot will be closed for construction (approx. 300 spaces).

Phase 4 – Early 2020 (until end of construction)

  • Temporary shuttle/bus stops will be created along Rollins Road.

Phase 5 – Early 2020

  • All surface parking will be closed for construction. (approx. 240 spaces). Some spaces may return at completion of construction.

Station Access

The BART garage will remain open throughout construction. Approximately two years into construction 300 surface parking spots that were occupied for equipement and materials will once again be made available to BART riders.
Safe access for bikes and pedestrians will be maintained. Bike lockers and racks are located at the station near the escalators. We will ensure ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible paths will always be available--as well as ADA parking. Look for signs and marked pathways.

We understand this work will be disruptive. The best way to stay updated is to visit www.GatewayatMillbraeStation.com
