BART Launches Open Public Records Request Portal

In an effort to make the records request process easier for the public, and to improve transparency and efficiency, BART has implemented a new, open public records portal at https://bart.nextrequest.com/.

Built by San Francisco-based software company NextRequest, the portal helps BART streamline processes around California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests and provide documents to the public in a broader, more efficient way.

“Managing public records in an open, easy-to-use online portal is a great way to help with our responsiveness”, says BART District Secretary Patricia Williams. “We receive over 300 CPRA requests every year. This solution modernizes our approach to those requests.”

The portal allows users to submit, track, receive and pay for documents related to their records requests online. In addition, the portal helps users search and find public records that have already been requested. This saves time and resources in connecting people with BART information and services.

Members of the public without access to a computer can still file a request by phone at (510) 464-6080, fax at (510) 464-6011 or standard mail addressed to: Public Records Request, c/o District Secretary, BART, 300 Lakeside Drive, 23rd Floor, Oakland, CA 94612.
