Concrete Repairs at West Oakland Station Begin 3/18/2020

On Monday, March 18, workers will begin barricading off sections of the platforms at West Oakland in order to repair/replace the pilasters (columns) on the parapet walls. The barricades should not interfere with access to trains. The work requires that the existing pilasters to be removed and new pilasters poured in place.

This work will be done between 7am and 6pm Monday-Sunday for approximately 3-4 months. There will be a fork-lift placed under the work area that will raise a debris box up to the outside of the platform walls. This box will contain the concrete and other waste from demolishing the old sections of the wall. Once demolition is completed, concrete formwork will be constructed and a new pilaster will be poured in place. The formwork and barricades will stay in place until the concrete cures and then the barricades will be moved to the next section of wall until all the repairs/replacements are completed.

Once the pilasters are repaired, work will begin on the exterior surfaces of the wall that also need repair. This will require the use of a person-lift as well as the fork-lift which means portions of driving lanes will be closed—whenever possible these closures will take place between 9am and 3:30pm. There will be signs and traffic coordinators for any detours/closures required.

We understand that this will be inconvenient and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important work.
