BART to beef up train service October 1 and 2

BART will double length of some trains and add extra service

During the weekend of October 1 and 2, BART will lengthen some trains and add extra train service to selected routes in order to get people across the Bay quickly instead of facing the agonizing traffic delays that will result from the planned Bay Bridge lane and on-ramp closures.

This weekend there are a number of events in San Francisco that will draw big crowds, including the San Francisco Giants vs. Arizona Diamondbacks game at SBC Park on Saturday, and both the Castro Street Fair and Bridge to Bridge Run on Sunday.

Those events could create big traffic delays for drivers leaving San Francisco for the East Bay because Caltrans is working on strengthening the western approach to the Bay Bridge so it can withstand a major earthquake.

Caltrans says at one time or another during the weekend, it will shut down every on-ramp onto eastbound I-80 and the Bay Bridge. Additionally, Caltrans will close some eastbound lanes. Please visit http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist4/ for further information on the Bay Bridge work.

In order to accommodate those trying to get between San Francisco and the East Bay, BART will enhance its train service.

BART will double the length of trains on both the Dublin Line (Blue Line) and Richmond Line(Red Line). Additionally, BART will add more cars to trains on its three other lines.

BART will also have five standby trains to accommodate crowds leaving the Cal Bears vs. Arizona Wildcats game at UC Berkeley on Saturday and have ten standby trains for the Raiders vs. Dallas Cowboys game on Sunday.
