Ashby Station east entrance and lot to close for 18 months

The east entrance and east parking lot of the Ashby BART Station will close starting Monday, Aug. 18, so that contractors can begin building the new Ed Roberts Campus.

The Ed Roberts Campus will house a group of disability organizations that have joined together to plan and develop a universally designed, transit-oriented campus. The campus will house the offices of the collaborating organizations as well as an array of disability-related services and programs, including fully accessible meeting rooms, a computer/media resource center, a fitness center, a cafe and a child development center, all in a totally accessible location at the Ashby BART Station.

The work will take approximately a year and a half to complete. BART is working closely with the Ed Roberts Campus project developer and the City of Berkeley to minimize disruption. A passenger bulletin has been distributed at the station noting the following changes:

Vehicle Parking: We will be offering an attendant assist-parking program in Ashby’s west parking lots on weekdays from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. After the self-park stalls are filled, we will give you the option to leave your vehicles with a professional parking operator who will park your vehicle in parking lot aisles. The existing $1.00 weekday parking fee will remain in effect. Monthly Reserved permit holders will continue to park in their same designated spaces. The City of Berkeley will provide BART customers with a designated number of parking spaces on streets around the station.

Bicycle Parking: We will relocate bicycle parking that is now on the east side of the station to the west side of the station adjacent to existing bicycle parking.

Passenger Pick Up and Drop Off: We will allow you to use the curb area adjacent to the station entrance while actively dropping off and picking up other BART riders.

Here is a map outlining the changes.
