Embarcadero Bike Station switching to self-service parking Oct. 12

The Embarcadero Bike Station is switching to become a self-service bicycle parking facility.  The new system will use BikeLink smart-cards for entry, will have security cameras, and will no longer have staffed valet bicycle parking. The advantage of the new smart-card system is that the bicycle parking will now be available all of the hours the Embarcadero Station is open and will not be subject to the previously limited staffed hours.

Keyed entry will end on Friday, Oct. 9, and valet service will end on Monday, Oct. 12.

BikeLink is the same smart-card, electronic bicycle lock system used now at many other BART stations for the electronic lockers.  If you already have a BikeLink card you will need to register your card to get an access code ($5 registration security check) to access the Embarcadero Bike Station.

Effective immediately, you can purchase a  BikeLink card with access or get an access code for existing cards from BikeLink at the following locations (existing BikeLink card holders must get an additional access code to use Embarcadero Bike Station and have a valid ID check):

Embarcadero Bike Station until October 12 (M-F 7:30 am - 9:30 am & 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm)
Fruitvale Bike Station (M-F 6:00 am - 8:00 pm)
Berkeley Bike Station (M-F 7:00 am - 9:00 pm)
Alameda Bicycle (M-S 10:00 am - 6:30 pm, Sun 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm).

What are the costs?
Parking costs only 3 cents per hour from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm weekdays, and only 1 cent per hour at all other times (8:00 pm- 8:00 am weekdays, and all weekend long).

The cost for a BikeLink card is $20, which gives you $20 pre-loaded on the card for use at Embarcadero Bike Station and lockers throughout the state. See www.BikeLink.org for locations.

There is an additional $5 charge for registering for Embarcadero Bike Station.  Registration of your card gives you access to Embarcadero Bike Station and provides an added level of security for this multi-user cage.

What's the process for signing up?
You need a valid driver's license, ID or passport and credit card or debit card with Visa / MC for payment.  The reason for this is more security - we verify the mailing address of your card statements in addition to photo ID to ensure extra safety for Embarcadero Bike Station users. Simply stop by one of the above locations. A staff member will call the 24-hour BikeLink support line (888-540-0546) and will go step-by-step to register you. It's that simple, and access is immediate.

Access hours: Embarcadero Bike Station is available whenever Embarcadero BART Station is open. Currently, the Station closes 2:00 am - 5:00 am.

Add value to card: Call 888-540-0546, or go to www.BikeLink.org and click "add value to card".

BART offers many different options for bicycle riders at different stations throughout the system. In San Francisco, there is free bike rack parking inside the stations at Montgomery, Civic Center, 16th/Mission and 24th/Mission. For bicycle information at any particular station, check the individual station page, and for information about bikes on BART in general, check the Bikes On BART page of this website.
