BART Police ask public's help in solving attempted robbery at Coliseum Station

BART Police are asking anyone with information about a shooting at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station to come forward to assist the investigation.

"The only witnesses we have to this crime are the two victims," BART Police Patrol Bureau Commander Daniel Hartwig said. "Any help the public can provide will be greatly appreciated.  If you observed or heard anything related to this crime, please call the BART Police Department on our toll-free number: (877) 679-7000."

The incident began at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, when an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl were walking up stairs from the station to the Snell Street parking lot in Oakland. The young man and the girl were confronted by two males who were wearing hoods that obscured their faces. The two suspects demanded money. The 18-year-old man said they had no money or valuables; that’s when one of the suspects shot the girl in the thigh. The suspects ran off.

The male victim ran back inside the station and flagged down a BART Police officer who immediately confirmed the girl had been shot and radioed for medical assistance.  BART and Oakland police officers then searched the area but did not locate the suspects.  The girl was rushed to the hospital. Her injury was not life-threatening and the hospital released her on Sunday night.
