Plaza above Lake Merritt Station reopens June 30

Thank you for your patience while the Lake Merritt Administrative building was demolished. The demolition and restoration work has been completed and we are pleased to announce the re-opening of the plaza above Lake Merritt Station.

On Thursday, June 30, our BART customers, neighbors and community members will have full access to the expanded plaza which has been designed with more open space areas for public use. Improvements include enhanced lighting; all existing lighting was reconditioned and new energy-efficient light bulbs installed and new security lighting was added around the plaza area. Additionally, California native and drought-resistant plants were added to the existing concrete planters with a new irrigation control system to maximize water conservation while dead trees were removed and replaced with new, healthy trees. Six new park benches were also added. In the near future, security cameras will be installed to provide video surveillance of the entire plaza area. We appreciate the support and patience of our customers, neighbors and community members with this project. Beginning on June 30, we invite you to visit and enjoy the restored Lake Merritt Station Plaza.
