BART to extend hours, provide special service on New Year's Eve

BART will help you ring in 2012 by staying open three hours later than normal and by offering special  service into downtown San Francisco for the fireworks show beginning at 8 pm.

BART to Extend Hours Until 3 am
BART service normally ends around midnight, but on Saturday, December 31, 2011, BART trains will continue to run until around 3 am Sunday, January 1, 2012.  Trains will run at their normal intervals during the extended hours.  For example, if your train arrives at your favorite station at 11 pm, it will also arrive 12 am, 1 am, 2 am and 3 am.

Special Service after 8pm to and from San Francisco Fireworks Show
Beginning at 8 pm, some trains will not stop at either Embarcadero or Montgomery Street stations in downtown San Francisco (they will stop at one of the two). This special service is designed to ease overcrowding at Embarcadero Station by better distributing people between the two stations. After the fireworks BART will add more trains to enhance our normal 20 minute service to carry riders home. Here are the details of the special service after the fireworks end:

Pittsburg/Bay Point and Richmond line trains will stop at Montgomery Street Station.  After the fireworks end, which will be about 12:20 am, riders traveling to stations on the Pittsburg/Bay Point or Richmond lines will need to enter the Montgomery Street Station to catch a train bound for Pittsburg/Bay Point or Richmond as those trains will not stop at Embarcadero Station.

Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont line trains will stop at Embarcadero Station.  After the fireworks end, Dublin/Pleasanton and Fremont customers will need to return to the Embarcadero Station to board a train bound for Dublin/Pleasanton or Fremont because those trains will not stop at Montgomery Street Station.

Riders traveling to and from the peninsula can expect their trains to make all stops in San Francisco; however, after the fireworks, peninsula-bound riders are encouraged to board at Montgomery Street Station. After 8 pm, SFO-bound passengers should board a Daly City or Millbrae-bound train and transfer to an SFO-bound train at Balboa Park Station.

Purchase Roundtrip Tickets or Load Cash Value on Clipper Card
To avoid lines at ticket machines, BART is encouraging passengers to purchase roundtrip tickets in advance.  Additionally, passengers who use the Clipper Card should pre-load it with cash so it can be used on any participating transit system that accepts Clipper (www.clippercard.org).

Leave Bikes and Pets at Home
To ensure that everyone travelling on BART can do so safely and comfortably, BART will rigorously enforce its rules regarding bikes and pets.  Trains will be full on New Year’s Eve, which is why BART encourages you to leave bikes and pets at home.  Non-folding bikes are never allowed on a crowded car or in the first car of any train regardless of how empty it may be. BART riders are also reminded that there is no eating or drinking allowed on trains.

New Year’s Day BART Will Run On Sunday/Holiday Schedule
On New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012, BART trains will be running on a Sunday/Holiday timetable so service will resume at approximately 8:00 am.
