Construction begins on improvements to Coliseum Station walkways and plaza

Beginning March 26, 2012, and continuing through the end of August, the City of Oakland will be working on improvements to the walkways and plaza near the Coliseum Station.

The work will include new fencing and landscaping, improvements to lighting, removal of a bus shelter, repainting the tunnel, upgraded signage and seating, sidewalk repair and crosswalk improvements. The bike racks along Snell Street will be removed and replaced with new racks in the Plaza. The work will take place along San Leandro Street west of the BART tracks and along Snell Street east of the Union Pacific line between 69th and 72nd avenues. Download the passenger bulletin (.pdf) for a map of the work area.

The contractor’s normal working hours are 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. If you have any questions or problems during construction, feel free to call Mr. Phillip Fung of the City of Oakland Public Works Agency/Project Delivery Division at (510) 238-2938. If emergency problems occur after normal business hours, please call 510-615-5566.

While the work is proceeding, crews may construct enclosures around work areas and at times will need to temporarily change pedestrian access around the station. This means it may take longer to make your way around the work areas to and from the station. You should expect temporary construction-related noise and dust. Please proceed around construction areas with caution and watch for signs with safety information and other notices. We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause you and appreciate your patience.
