Missing teen now home safe thanks to BART employees

Two alert BART employees at our Fremont Station this week played a critical role in finding a missing 15-year-old East Bay girl and getting her back to her family.

On Wednesday, Station Agent Rachelle "Mimi" Powe was giving a foreworker trainee a tour of the Fremont Station when she saw a teenage girl in distress.  The girl approached Powe and told her that she needed to get home. Powe and the foreworker trainee took the girl to the station agent break room where they fed her and had her remove her wet hoodie as she was extremely cold and shivering.

Powe was able to contact the girl’s father and ultimately her entire family came to the Fremont Station.

The girl had been missing for more than 24 hours but is now safe at home with her family. Powe and the trainee have accepted an invitation to join the reunited family for Easter dinner.

Powe has worked for BART for more than nine years.
