Elevator upgrade project to begin at Fremont line stations

Beginning in August 2006, BART will begin working to upgrade equipment in elevators in all the Fremont line stations. This work will include replacing buttons in the elevators, installing new hands-free phones and reconfiguring the way in which riders call for the elevators.

This work will require taking each elevator out of service for three to five days.

The project will begin at Lake Merritt Station, followed by Fruitvale, Coliseum/Oakland Airport, San Leandro, Bay Fair, Hayward, South Hayward and Union City and Fremont.

Before work will begin at a particular station, BART will distribute a passenger bulletin informing customers when the elevator will be out of service.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience the elevator shutdowns may create, but we are confident you will agree the upgraded elevators will be worth the minor disruption.
