Bus stops temporarily relocated at Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station

Earlier in the year, contractors began work to construct the City of Oakland's Coliseum Transit Hub Streetscape project along San Leandro Boulevard in front of the BART Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station. The project consists of a concrete median with landscaping, a colored concrete crosswalk, new traffic signals, bus shelters, streetlights and modifications to the curbs and gutters.

In order to facilitate the construction, crews will temporarily relocate bus stops along San Leandro Boulevard in front of the station in two phases. Phase I of the construction has been completed. Phase II is outlined below and illustrated with a map on the back of this bulletin.

PHASE II:
On Wednesday, August 9, 2006, the following bus stops will be relocated:

  • All AC Transit bus stops will be relocated along San Leandro Street adjacent to the southern end of the BART Station.
  • AirBART buses will be temporarily relocated along San Leandro Street to the former passenger drop off area north of the station.

This configuration will be in effect for about two months while the City of Oakland completes the Phase II construction. After Phase II construction is completed the AirBART buses will be moved back to their original location.

The completed Transit Hub Streetscape Project will enhance pedestrian and vehicle safety, access, and reduce traffic issues. In addition, the City of Oakland and PG&E have another project planned in the area to underground all of the overhead wiring. This future "utility under grounding" project will not affect AC Transit, BART and AirBART customers.
