Temporary parking added near Rockridge Station

BART & Trader Joe's cooperate to provide 90 more spaces until June 10

BART riders will have additional parking available at Rockridge Station in Oakland beginning Friday, May 4, 2007 thanks to an agreement between the transit agency and the Trader Joe's grocery store company.

The store has offered to open the old Albertson's parking lot containing about 90 spaces at no cost to BART. BART riders will be able to park in the lot at 5727 College Avenue for free on a first-come, first-served basis until Sunday, June 10, 2007. The lot is located one block north of Rockridge Station.

"We're very happy that we were able to work out an agreement to provide additional parking so quickly," said BART Director Bob Franklin. "Trader Joe's should be commended for its cooperation, especially since it is a new member of the Rockridge community." Director Franklin represents District 3, which includes Rockridge.

FEES REMAIN AT STATION LOTS
The 869-space parking lots at Rockridge Station are among the busiest in the East Bay. The $1.00 Daily Fee at Rockridge will remain in effect in existing station lots, as will the Reserved and Single Day Reserved parking programs, which are available on a limited first-come, first-served basis. An average of 4,900 riders used the Rockridge Station before the freeway collapse and that number has grown.

BART HOPING TO STRIKE MORE DEALS
"This agreement sets a very promising precedent," said BART Board President Lynette Sweet."BART is interested in working with other commercial entities to provide complimentary parking near our stations. If a business has space available and wants to assist us during this regional challenge at no cost, we'd love to discuss a possible agreement."
