BART cuts ribbon on stylish, new Richmond Transit Center

Transit center to provide clean, safe place to shop, wait for bus, connect to Capitol Corridor & BART trains

Richmond residents and transit riders now have a stylishly new and safer place at the Richmond BART Station to either connect with a BART or Capitol Corridor train, wait for a bus and even shop.

"We are delighted to have this new link between the station and the Transit Village," President Sweet said. "It provides a dry, safe and comfortable place for riders and residents to shop, wait for their bus and connect to either a BART or Capitol Corridor train. One of the best things about it is that the Transit Center will also house a new, joint Richmond and BART police substation, whose presence will help to deter crime."

The 3,700 square foot transit center is part of the Richmond Transit Village project, which opened a few years ago with 132 homes, 7,500 square feet or retail space and a soon-to-be-built 800 space BART garage that will add about 170 more parking spots than what already exists.

The Richmond Transit Village is a joint project between many different private companies and public agencies including the City of Richmond, the Capitol Corridor, the West Contra Costa County Transportation Advisory Committee, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, BART, Bridge Housing, the Olson Company and The Martin Group.
