BART doubles parking for holiday travelers

More Airport/Long Term parking spaces for travelers to SFO and OAK

BART has doubled the number of Airport/Long Term parking spaces available during the holiday travel season! Buy your permits early because we expect heavy demand from people who are flying or taking a train out of town. Permits are available only on-line at www.bart.gov/parking. BART does not sell permits at any stations.

820 ADDITIONAL AIRPORT/LONG TERM SPACES
BART is setting aside an additional 820 spaces system wide for Airport/Long Term parking. That's a 100% increase, bringing the total spaces for Airport/Long Term to 1,640. Airport/Long Term parking is available at all East Bay stations with parking lots, excluding West Oakland, Coliseum/Oakland Airport, Union City and Lake Merritt stations for $5.00/day. Peninsula stations with available Airport/Long Term parking are Colma, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae. Permits there cost $6.00/day.

BART guarantees customers an Airport/Long Term parking spot if they get to the parking lot before 10:00 am. After 10:00 am, customers can park in any available space, but BART cannot guarantee them a spot when they arrive.

"We want our riders to put their holiday dollars toward traveling to their loved ones, not parking," BART Board President Lynette Sweet said. "Many of our regular riders aren't using BART right now because they're out-of-town, so instead of having empty parking spaces at our stations, we'd rather give the gift of affordable parking to airport travelers and offer the hundreds of additional spaces to them."

Drivers who do not have Airport/Long Term parking permits are subject to the 24-hour weekday time limit on parking in all BART lots. The fine for violating this provision is $100.00. The additional Airport/Long Term spaces will be available from Friday, December 21 through Sunday, January 6, 2008.

PARKING RULES IN EFFECT ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 24 & MONDAY, DECEMBER 31
BART considers Monday, December 24 and Monday, December 31, 2007 normal weekdays and BART Police will enforce all parking regulations. Vehicles parked for an extended period of time (over 24 hours) without an Airport/Long Term permit will be subject to the $100.00 fine.
