West Oakland elevators temporarily out of service

From Monday, January 7 through Friday, January 11, BART crews will be interrupting elevator service at the West Oakland BART Station to complete electrical improvements to the elevators. This elevator shutdown will limit access to our train platforms at this station.

Work will start on the eastbound side elevator (East Bay, platform #2) and the westbound side elevator (San Francisco, platform #1) will remain open.

Once the eastbound elevator is finished, and returned to service, most likely sometime on Wednesday, January 9, the westbound side elevator will be shut down for upgrades. Check our elevator hotline at (888) 235-3828 for which elevator is operating during the week.

If you require an elevator, you must plan ahead and make alternative travel plans during this period. Both Lake Merritt Station and 12th Street Station can be reached by bus from the West Oakland vicinity. You can use AC Transit Route 62 (Lake Merritt) or Route 19 (12th Street). You can also use whichever West Oakland elevator is operating to "backtrack" to the next station, exit, then travel back in the required direction.

If you have questions about bus routes or "back tracking" please call, BART Customer Services at (510) 465-BART.
