Public invited to attend BART's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration

Keynote speaker is UC Berkeley professor Dr. Harry Edwards

On Tuesday, January 15 from Noon to 1:15 p.m., BART will hold a public celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s achievements and legacy at BART Headquarters, 300 Lakeside Drive, Oakland, in the second floor Kaiser Building Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker for the event will be Professor Emeritus Dr. Harry Edwards of UC Berkeley. BART Board President Gail Murray and BART General Manager Dorothy Dugger are also scheduled to attend.

"Destiny the Sound Sculptress" will provide musical entertainment and BART Board Director Carole Ward Allen will be the Mistress of Ceremonies. Rounding out the program will be poet Carlton Franklin.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee, with support from BART's Media & Public Affairs Department and Office of Civil Rights, are sponsoring the tribute, entitled "Embrace Diversity - Share the Dream." BART will serve a light lunch after the program.
