BART seeks input on Bay Fair safety design

BART is partnering with the City of San Leandro, the County of Alameda, and Madison Marquette, owners of San Leandro’s Bayfair Center, to improve safety and security around the half-mile radius of the Bay Fair Station area. As part of that effort, the “Crime Prevention through Environmental Design” community workshop is planned for Tuesday, July 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Community members and transit patrons are encouraged to attend, voice their concerns and talk about solutions. The meeting will be at Bayfair Center, Room 311B (by Center Court), 15555 E. 14th St., San Leandro.
Last November, BART received a grant for the development of an overall improvement plan for the Bay Fair BART Station area. The Station Area Improvement Plan (SAIP), creates a safety and security proposal for the Bay Fair BART station area, with the goal of attracting riders while enhancing access for residents, shoppers, workers and transit users. The SAIP will include a second community meeting this fall, with completion of the Plan expected by Winter 2008/09.
