Pleasant Hill BART Station bike/pedestrian shortcut considered

A bicycle/pedestrian shortcut path at the Pleasant Hill BART Station will be considered by the Walnut Creek City Council at a meeting on Tuesday, July 15, at 7 p.m., in the Council Chambers at 1666 N. Main St., Walnut Creek.

Contra Costa County proposes to construct a trail along the north side of the BART tracks from Bancroft Road to Las Juntas Way, providing improved access to the Pleasant Hill BART station and the Iron Horse Trail. Because the proposed alignment is within the City of Walnut Creek, the City Council must approve the project before the County begins construction. Community members and transit patrons are encouraged to attend the City Council meeting to learn more about the benefits of the shortcut path.

The alignment for the trail makes use of the BART right-of-way on the north side of the tracks. The shortcut path has been reviewed by the City’s Bicycle Committee and Transportation Commission, who are recommending the trail to the City Council with some modifications to the proposed fencing along the corridor.
