Escalators out of service at Balboa Park Station

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the out-of-service escalators at Balboa Park Station. We have been performing a complete rebuild on two of the escalators since April of this year. This work includes the complete rehabilitation of the main drive gears and gear boxes, motors, plus new handrails, new steps and step chain. The work has been very involved and extensive and should result in trouble-free operation. We hope to complete the work this month.

Unfortunately, we have had the one remaining escalator break down unexpectedly. We will conduct repairs as quickly as possible to return this escalator to service as soon as possible.

We recognize the great inconvenience this will cause you, and appreciate your patience and understanding.

People who cannot use the stairs while the escalators are out of service will have to use the elevator to get to their destination. To check the operational status of the elevator before arriving at the station, please call 510-834-LIFT or 888-2-ELEVAT.

For more information on train status you can check the real time departures page, text “BART go” to 468311 or call 511.
