Bob Franklin was elected to the BART Board of Directors on November 2, 2004.  Director Franklin represents BART District 3, which covers Kensington, Piedmont, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and portions of Berkeley, Oakland, Hayward and Castro Valley.
 
Franklin is the Chairperson of the following BART committees:  the Sustainability/Green Committee, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Liaison committee, the AC Transit Liaison Committee and the Administration Committee.  He is also the current Chairperson of the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority Board of Directors, which runs intercity passenger rail service between San Jose and Auburn.  Additionally, he serves as a Board member for the West Contra Costa Transportation Advisory Committee (WCCTAC), which advises Contra Costa County on transportation issues.

Prior to being elected, Franklin worked for BART for seven years in the Finance and Planning departments.  He was the Executive Staff Assistant to the Controller-Treasurer, working on bond deals for the SFO extension, leaseback transactions, and the Business Advancement Plan.  He was the project manager and coordinator for several projects within the Finance department.

Before coming to BART, Franklin worked for the United States Forest Service, fighting forest fires in the Western United States.  He also worked on an organic vegetable farm.  Additionally, Franklin worked for the Second Harvest Food Bank and for his father’s office supply business.

President Franklin is a graduate of Stanford University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1986.
