Electrical upgrade work begins at Rockridge Station

As part of our 34.5KV Cable System Upgrade Project, construction will begin at Rockridge Station in late February 2012. Most work will take place at night between the hours of 9 pm and 5 am. The work will last approximately two months. Work involves attaching conduit to existing steel along our elevated structures using bolts mounted by hand wrenches. Other equipment used on site includes a gas-powered generator, scissor lift, fork lift and large trucks to hold the equipment.

Per State requirements, all construction vehicles are equipped with back-up alarms.

The work will require intermittent parking closures in both the eastern and western lots, but the spaces will be re-opened as soon as the work is completed. Most parking closures will take place at night outside of peak commute hours. The contractor will post “No Parking” signs 72 hours in advance  in designated areas prior to work. Vehicles that are not moved from areas that have been marked with “No Parking” signs on the dates posted will be subject to ticketing and/or towing. You can also expect some construction-related noise and some temporary lane closures on side streets around the station’s perimeter. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices. We appreciate your patience and cooperation and apologize for the inconvenience.

The 34.5KV Cable System Upgrade Project is part of the larger Earthquake Safety Program (ESP), which has several construction projects underway at various locations throughout the BART system. We expect to complete all ESP projects by the end of 2016. As always, safety is BART’s top priority. Our aim is to strengthen BART as quickly as possible, while maintaining BART service.
