Dog Park and Basketball Court Entrance Detour to Begin February 26, 2010

Construction of the BART Fremont Central Park Subway through the softball field parking area will be ongoing this spring. To maintain pedestrian access to the 4-plex softball fields, dog park and basketball courts during construction, the work will be completed in phases.

Phase II: Detour to Dog Park and Basketball Courts Entrance & Parking Lot
Effective Friday, February 26, 2010 the current dog park and basketball court parking lot will be closed.
The dog park and basketball courts can be accessed by automobile from Stevenson Boulevard, near the animal shelter. Pedestrian access to the dog park and basketball courts from the east side of the park will be maintained using the softball field parking lot and access pathways.

Impacts

·         The dog park and basketball court parking lot will be closed to traffic effective February 26th.

·         Detour signs will be posted indicating directions to the new parking lot and entrance to the dog park and basketball courts.

·         Pedestrian access will be maintained from the east side of the park to the dog park and basketball courts via the softball field parking lot. Signage will be posted indicating the pathway to the dog park and basketball court entrance.

·         Expect increased dust, noise and inconvenience from construction equipment.

Fremont Central Park Subway Construction Work to Begin on Stevenson Boulevard

Construction of the Fremont Central Park Subway will begin in mid-December. This work will require two phases of lane reductions on Stevenson Boulevard between Guardino Drive and Civic Center Drive. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Stevenson Boulevard as follows:

Phase 1 - December 2009 through Summer 2010: One lane of traffic in each direction on the northern side of Stevenson Boulevard. The west bound bike lane on the northern side of Stevenson Boulevard will remain in service. Automobiles and bicycles will share the east bound lane of traffic through the area. 

Phase 2 - Autumn 2010 through Spring 2011: One lane of traffic in each direction on the southern side of Stevenson Boulevard. The east bound bike lane on the southern side of Stevenson Boulevard will remain in service. Automobiles and bicycles will share the west bound lane of traffic through the area.

The construction work will include:

  • Removing the median between Guardino Drive and Civic Center Drive
  • Repaving and striping Stevenson Boulevard
  • Constructing the subway

Anticipated general work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some work on Saturday as necessary. Work hours in the Lake Elizabeth area are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

 


Large Equipment Needed for Subway Construction to be Moved Early December 2009

Large equipment needed to construct the subway will be moved from the Lake Elizabeth area to the eastern side of Fremont Central Park at Stevenson Boulevard. The equipment will be moved over a two-day period in the first two weeks in December. During the move construction workers will direct traffic in the dog park parking lot area. Please watch for signs and notices regarding the move and reduce your speed in these areas.

Construction of the mile-long subway beneath Fremont Central Park will begin once the equipment is in place. The duration of the construction is approximately three years. During the work you can expect increased noise, dust and inconvenience from construction. Fremont Central Park facilities will remain open and accessible during construction; however access to some areas may be re-routed. Please watch for signs and posted information regarding access changes.

Additional impacts include:

  • Traffic in the dog park area will be directed by construction workers during the move. Please reduce your speed in parking lot.

Mobilization of Equipment & Start of BART Subway Construction

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) has begun preparation for construction of the Fremont Central Park Subway. Large equipment needed to construct the subway will begin arriving in the park at the end of October. Construction of the subway is anticipated to start in November and end in 2013.

Park facilities will remain open and accessible during construction. Please watch for signs and notices regarding the construction work.

Construction Impacts Include:

  • Large equipment will be located within the park to conduct the work.
  • Increased dust, noise and inconvenience.
  • Access to park facilities will be maintained but in some cases re-routed. Please watch for signs and posted information regarding access changes.

Tennis Center Parking Lot Construction

BART will begin work to construct a new 40 space parking lot at the Fremont Central Park Tennis Center. Preliminary work that will start this week will include installing construction fencing, removing curbs and protecting trees in the work area. Additional work that will take place over the next three months will include grading, paving and landscaping for the new parking lot.

Effective September 28, 2009, approximately 10 parking spaces in the northeastern portion of the Tennis Center parking lot will be out of service during construction.

Impacted Areas of Tennis Center Parking Lot

Construction impacts include:

§          Loss of approximately 10 parking spaces at northeastern portion of parking during construction.

§         Contractors and construction equipment will enter the work site via the Tennis Center parking lot entrance on Stevenson Blvd.

§         Increased noise from construction equipment including jackhammers.

§         Additional traffic in the Tennis Center area.

Tree Removal In Fremont Central Park Subway to Begin September 2009

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) will begin removal of trees located within the project construction area in mid-September. Trees will be removed along the project route between Walnut Avenue and the eastern side of Fremont Central Park. Only trees that are in the path of the project will be removed; trees near the project path will be protected in place. Trees are being removed during non-nesting season to encourage birds to next elsewhere next spring. BART will replace tress that are removed by the end of project construction.

Anticipated impacts include increased noise from chain saws, chippers, and other equipment.

BART Warm Springs Extension Subway Contract NTP Issued August 24, 2009

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) has issued notice to proceed, or NTP, to a joint venture of Shimmick/Skanska for the Fremont Central Park Subway Contract. Within the next several weeks, Fremont residents can expect to see preliminary work beginning in various locations along the 1 mile subway section of the Fremont Central Park Subway contract. The first pieces of work will include:

  • Installation of the Community Relations & Construction Management Field Offices in Fremont Central Park
  • Removal of trees between Walnut Avenue and Stevenson Boulevard
  • Removal of trees in the project area through Fremont Central Park
  • Installation of construction fencing
  • Construction of a new dog park, basketball park, and parking area on the southwestern side of Fremont Central Park near Stevenson Boulevard

Please note that all of Fremont Central Park's facilities will remain open and available for public use throughout construction. For additional information regarding the planned work within Fremont Central Park, click here.

Throughout construction you can expect construction related noise, dust and inconvenience. We will attempt to keep these disruptions to a minimum and will provide advance notice of activities whenever possible.
