Filing period opens July 13, 2020 for BART Board of Directors

The filing period opens on Monday, July 13, 2020, for persons interested in being candidates in the November 3, 2020, general election for the BART policymaking Board of Directors. 

Five of the nine seats on the Board are up for election – all representing specific geographic districts in the BART District which includes Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco counties. 

The seats which are up for election include: 

BART District 1, which includes Alamo, Blackhawk, Clayton, Danville, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon, Walnut Creek, and portions of Concord, Lafayette, and portions of unincorporated Contra Costa County.

BART District 3, which includes Moraga, Orinda, Piedmont, and portions of Albany, Berkeley,  El Cerrito, Lafayette, Oakland, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and portions of unincorporated Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

BART District 5, which includes Castro Valley, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, and portions of Hayward and unincorporated Alameda County.

BART District 7, which includes Crockett, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Hercules, Pinole, Richmond, Rodeo, San Pablo, and portions of Albany, Berkeley, Oakland, El Cerrito, San Francisco, and unincorporated Contra Costa County.

BART District 9, which includes portions of San Francisco.

The filing period for the election extends from Monday, July 13th through 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020. If an incumbent does not file for re-election by August 7th, the filing deadline for that seat will be extended by five days as prescribed by the Election Code.

Candidates must be registered voters and reside in the area they seek to represent. 

For Alameda County residents, nomination packets may be obtained and filed at the Registrar of Voters, 1225 Fallon Street, Room G-1, Oakland, (510) 272-6973. 

For Contra Costa County residents, nomination packets may be picked up and filed at the Contra Costa County Elections Department, 555 Escobar Street in Martinez, (925) 335-7800. 

For San Francisco County residents, nomination packets may be picked up and filed at the City and County of San Francisco Elections Office at #1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlet Place, Room 48 in San Francisco, CA, (415) 554-4375
