BART on heightened security alert

BART is on a heightened security alert and customers may experience some delays today because the District has made security modifications in response to the averted airline bombing plots in London.

BART Police, including canine units, will randomly hold trains and conduct security sweeps throughout the BART system, and additional security measures are also being taken "behind the scenes," according to BART's Chief Spokesperson, Linton Johnson.

Johnson also reports that the Transportation Security Administration is recommending that people bound for SFO take BART instead of driving in order to limit traffic congestion as authorities randomly sweep cars headed in and out of the airport.
