Tuesday, September 12, is a Spare the Air Day

Tuesday, September 12, is a Spare the Air Day in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ground-level ozone air pollution is forecast to exceed 100 AQI (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) tomorrow.

BART and other public transit is NOT free tomorrow - the Bay Area transit promotion ended on Friday, July 21.

Clear skies, hot temperatures, a strong temperature inversion trapping pollutants near the ground, and light winds will combine to produce poor air quality for the Bay Area.

To help prevent smog on September 12, please:

  • Ride BART
  • Drive less
  • Refuel in the evening & don't top off
  • Use electric lawn mowers and leaf blowers or use a hand-pushed or electric lawn mower
