BART runs on Sunday schedule for New Year's Day; service starts at 8 a.m.

BART is modifying service to better match anticipated ridership levels starting on the weekend before Christmas through and including New Year’s Day, which will mean some reductions in morning and evening peak commute service on the Pittsburg/Bay Point line.

MODIFIED SCHEDULE
Because peak commute ridership typically drops between Christmas and New Year’s due to vacations, we will not run some rush hour trains that are currently in the BART timetable. These reductions primarily affect the shorter commute period runs from Pleasant Hill and Concord to/from San Francisco starting Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, January 2. Instead of every 5 minutes, trains will arrive every fifteen minutes during peak weekday commute times on these Pittsburg/Bay Point lines. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day will follow a typical Sunday schedule for all lines with service starting around 8:00 am. These last-minute changes are not reflected in any schedules posted online or at the station.

Here is a list of trains that will not operate between Wednesday, December 24, thorugh Wednesday, December 31, listed by the station and time where the train normally would begin its journey. You can review the complete "BART Fares and Schedules Brochure" for other available trains for your trip.

LONGER TRAINS FOR LAST-MINUTE SHOPPING
On the weekend before Christmas (Saturday, December 20 & Sunday, December 21), however, BART will lengthen trains to accommodate last-minute holiday shoppers.

NEW YEAR’S EVE SERVICE
On Wednesday, December 31, BART will extend service three hours past the usual timetable.  BART service normally ends around midnight, but to accommodate New Year’s revelers, train service will end around 3:00 a.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009.  We are offering 7,000 New Year’s Eve Flash Passes for sale at Safeway stores.  The $6.00 pass allows you to take unlimited rides on BART after 6:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve until service ends around 3:00 New Year’s morning.
