Earthquake safety work at Daly City Station to affect fare gates

Dear Customer:

As part of BART's systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, we have been strengthening structures at the Daly City Station to withstand future earthquakes. Starting early February 2010, construction crews will start work inside the station. We will need to close two fare gates at the south end of the station, which may result in delays during the peak morning and evening commute hours as riders pass through the remaining fare gates.

Download a diagram (.pdf) that shows which fare gates will be affected.

You can also expect construction-related noise and some dust. Please look for signs with safety information and future bulletins to alert you of work in progress.

Construction Work Details:

  • Description: Constructing temporary enclosures, adding steel and concrete to foundations, wrapping columns with reinforcement and
    protecting utility units and equipment.
  • Start Date: Approximately early February 2010
  • Duration: Through fall 2010
  • Hours: Most work will occur Monday through Saturday, between 7:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M., with periodic night work as necessary

Strengthening other portions of the BART system is underway and we expect to complete our Earthquake Safety Program by the end of 2014. As always, safety is BART’s top priority. Our aim is to strengthen BART as quickly as possible, while maintaining BART service.
