West Oakland Station earthquake safety work in December

As part of our 34.5KV (Electrical) Cable System Upgrade Project, construction is currently underway to install conduit and cables along the elevated structures in West Oakland. The contractor is moving into its next phase of the project which includes working inside the West Oakland Station. The work starts in the second week of December and will last for approximately two months. In order to minimize disruption to morning commuters, crews will begin work after 9am.

The work involves attaching conduit to existing steel along our elevated structures using bolts mounted by hand wrenches. Other equipment used on site includes a gas powered generator, scissor lift, fork lift and large trucks to hold the equipment.

The work will require temporary closures of some parking stalls close to the station. The contractor will post “No Parking” signs 72 hours in advance in the areas to be closed. Vehicles that are not moved from areas that have been marked with “No Parking” signs on the dates posted may be ticketed and/or towed. You can also expect some construction-related noise. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices. Download the passenger bulletin here.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and appreciate your patience.
