BART Board meets Thursday night to take up variety of important topics

The BART Board of Directors will meet in Oakland at 5pm on Thursday August 28, 2014 to get updates and take action on a variety of topics of interest to riders and the Bay Area.  On the fourth Thursday of each month, the Board meets during the evening (except for November and December) as part of a pilot program to encourage more public participation and accommodate those who work during the day.

The full agenda for Thursday’s meeting can be found here.  Some noteworthy items include:

-A discussion of a draft version of BART’s Short Range Transit Plan/Capital Improvement Program which is an overview of BART’s long-term financial outlook, the reinvestment challenges ahead, and our plan to keep up with demand.  More details can be found here.

-A semi-annual update on the Warm Springs Extension project which will extend service to South Fremont and is on time and on budget and slated to open late next year.

-A report from the Earthquake Safety Program Citizen’s Oversight Committee which is tasked with ensuring $980 million in bond revenues passed by Bay Area voters in 2004 to pay for earthquake safety improvements, are spent as intended.

-Action on a funding agreement with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) for BART’s Station Profile Survey which will begin in October.  The last survey was conducted in 2008 and is a valuable tool, essentially a "census" of BART's stations, who uses them, how they access them, and other important data.

-Action to increase funding to purchase additional bike lockers at stations. BART’s current contract has enough money to purchase 37 additional lockers. Based on customer satisfaction and increasing demand, staff recommends additional funds be made available to purchase an additional 325 lockers.   BART currently operates 1,150 lockers at 35 stations.

-Board members will discuss and possibly take action on the termination of free transit privileges for current, newly elected, and newly appointed Board members and their dependents upon leaving office.
