Statement from BART Chief of Police Kenton Rainey

“We send our sincere condolences and support to the families and friends of the DART and Dallas Police officers injured and killed during the recent, horrifying events in Dallas. We, like the rest of the country, are deeply saddened by their loss and pain, and unequivocally condemn senseless violence against either law enforcement or civilians.

What we saw yesterday were people peacefully exercising their right and freedom to be heard, whose efforts were hijacked by individuals with no regard for the sanctity of life, our constitution, or our democratic values.  We saw the bravery of officers standing alongside and protecting civilians, and civilians standing alongside and assisting officers. We must never forget that we are a community of individual people with specific and varying needs, who must work side-by-side to improve the whole.

What we can do now is listen to each other, make changes, heal, and come together. This is a tragedy we cannot afford to repeat.” -BART Chief of Police Kenton W. Rainey
