BART riders who transfer to Muni should plan for subway closures

BART riders who transfer to Muni should be aware of planned Muni subway closures and bus bridges.

The following information has been provided by The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which operates Muni.

The Muni Metro Subway from Montgomery to West Portal station will close early on weeknights and weekends beginning Saturday, July 22, at 8am (start of regular service) through Sunday, August 20, at 1am (end of regular service).  Muni Metro service will continue to service Embarcadero and the surface level stops. A bus bridge will provide service continuity between Embarcadero Station and St. Francis Circle. On weekends, an additional bus bridge will provide service between Embarcadero Station and Church & Duboce.

The SFMTA is investing in new, technologically advanced light-rail vehicles (LRVs) to replace their aging fleet. New cars were delivered this year and are being prepped to go into service by the end of this year. Before this can happen, new LRV trains need to go through rigorous testing inside the subway system.

These subway closures are to test the new trains.

For complete details check out SFMTA's alert.

These subway closures WILL NOT impact BART service.
