Balboa Park Station hazardous material abatement 10/22

Starting on Monday, October 22, we will begin preparing for the installation of new signs at Balboa Park Station on the Platform level. We will remove hazards such as lead paint and asbestos that have been identified during earlier sampling. These materials did not present a hazard when undisturbed, but because of the installation work, they now need to be removed. The work will occur after revenue service on weeknights and will take 1 week to complete.

We will take all proper precautions to protect customers and employees during the abatement. The contractors doing the work are required to wear various safety equipment such as special suits, masks, respirators, etc. This is part of regulations and is done for the safety of the workers. The areas where the abatement work is being done will be blocked off with protective drapes, etc. as needed.
