Earthquake safety work at Fruitvale Station

As part of the BART systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, construction activity will create periodic lane narrowing and access delays in the BART Fruitvale Station Fee Lot, located south of 35th Avenue and west of the trackway. You will see concrete trucks, concrete pump/hose, scissor lifts, drill rigs, along with flaggers on site to assist with traffic control. This activity is scheduled to take place approximately from 5 am to 2 pm, starting as early as Friday, March 15 and continuing almost daily on weekdays through the end of March.

Please watch for directional signs and flaggers to assist you with access in and out of the parking lot during construction activity. Allow more time in your travel plans. We will monitor noise and dust, working to minimize any inconveniences; and local regulations will be enforced.

Earthquake safety construction consists of seismic retrofit work performed on each footing and pier cap (a beam connecting two columns) that serves to support the BART trackway under the alignment. Work continues inside and outside the Fruitvale Station and is in its final phases of construction.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation during construction. As always, safety is BART’s top priority. Our aim is to complete seismic retrofit work as quickly as possible, while maintaining BART service. Fruitvale Station will remain open for BART riders during construction. Please watch for additional notices regarding upcoming construction.
