Juvenile suspect under arrest following fatal shooting

BART Police have arrested a 16-year-old homicide suspect wanted for fatally shooting a 17-year-old female last night outside the West Oakland Station.

Shortly before 1 p.m., working in conjunction with BART Police, Oakland Police took the male suspect into custody.

The shooting occurred at 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot on the 7th Street side of the station.  The shooting did not involve any BART passengers and it did not involve a robbery or the targeting of BART riders.  The shooting is an isolated incident that began on the streets of the city of Oakland and ended at our parking lot.  The parties involved are known to each other.

The suspect was identified through witness statements and an arrest warrant was obtained this morning. The Oakland Police Department took the juvenile into custody outside his residence in Oakland.

“This is a clear example of the dedication and commitment of the BART Police Department to solving crimes and working quickly to take a suspect into custody,” said BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas.  “Now the case will be turned over to the District Attorney.  Our robust surveillance network captured the incident and will play a critical role in the prosecution.”
