BART statement on the sudden passing of Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan

Supervisor Chan

BART is mourning the sudden and tragic passing of Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan. Supervisor Chan was the first Asian American to be elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 2000 and was the first woman and first Asian American to serve as Majority Leader of that body. Supervisor Chan will be remembered for her more than four decades of public service for people in Alameda County and across the Bay Area. Throughout her public service career Supervisor Chan was a tireless advocate for public transportation recognizing its importance for working families and its value as a tool to promote equity in our communities. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues.
