Escalator closed for improvements at 19th Street Station starting 2/28

As part of our modernization project at the 19th Street Oakland Station, we will close the down escalator on the south side of the station that runs from the concourse level to the lower platform (closest to the Station Agent booth at 17th St. and Broadway) on Monday, February 28, 2022. It will be closed for approximately two weeks.

During the closure, crews will work to replace the metal railing along the upper level platform with glass guardrails.

The escalator is the second of six at the 19th Street Oakland Station being closed for glass guardrail installation. One escalator will be shut down at a time for approximately two weeks each.

Other improvements being made at 19th Street Station as part of the modernization project include  installing new LED lighting throughout the station, a new concourse to platform elevator, replacing existing metal fare barriers with glass barriers, installing glass guardrails on staircases, installing a new station agent booth and relocating the fare gates at the north end of the station, installing a new fare gate array on the south end of the station while enclosing the existing platform elevator into the paid area.

Temporary wayfinding signs will be in place to assist customers.

We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your patience.
